Overtime Option: Posting Sequence

A payroll feature in Vista for daily overtime is P-Posting Sequence—this enhances how daily overtime is calculated for employees working multiple jobs. This method ensures all hours across different jobs are considered together when determining daily overtime eligibility.

Posting Sequence Method (P-Posting Seq): This overtime calculation method is especially beneficial for organizations following both craft and job-specific overtime rules.

  • Overtime is calculated after all daily timecard entries (posting sequences) are reviewed.
  • The system evaluates each timecard line top-to-bottom, applying applicable OT schedules as it goes.
  • Overtime rules are pulled from:
    • The job/project
    • The job's craft template
    • The craft
  • If multiple overtime schedules could apply to a line, the more generous schedule is used.

Important: The order that you enter timecard lines in the PR Timecard Entry form matters. Because the system applies overtime schedule rules starting with the top timecard line and working toward to bottom line, a continuous, daily overtime calculation such as this that crosses jobs, crafts, and craft templates means the order that you enter timecard lines can affect how the system calculates wages and attributes those costs to jobs. You may encounter scenarios where if the timecard line entries are reversed, the wages are different.

Example below

Below example using the P-Posting Seq as Overtime and using two separate jobs with different overtime schedules

  • Employee 9997 we set the Overtime on the PR Employee Tab to P-Posting Seq

PR Overtime Schedule

  • (4) OT over 8 hours daily M-F
  • (5) OT over 10 daily M-F

JC Jobs PR OT Schedule

PR Enter Time

  • Entered with Job 20677-00 first and 21695-00 second in timecard posting sequence.
  • 20677-00 had OT schedule over 8 hours
  • 21695-00 had OT schedule over 10 hours
  • There are two hours of overtime placed on job 21695-00

PR Enter Time – now changing the sequence of the jobs in timecard entry

  • Entered with Job first 21695-00 and 20677-00 second in timecard posting sequence.
  • 21695-00 had an OT schedule over 10 hours
  • 20677-00 had an OT schedule over 8 hours
  • There are four hours of overtime placed on job 20677-00
