TID Enforcement Is Coming… But Please Put the Panic Button Down

TID enforcement is not the apocalypse.

If you work with Viewpoint Vista, you’ve probably seen the emails about TID Enforcement and had one of the following reactions:

  • “Wait…what is a TID?”
  • “Do I need to change something?”
  • “Is this going to break everything?”
  • “Should I start updating my résumé?”

Let’s calm down for a second. Take a sip of coffee. Maybe stare at the job cost report like it personally offended you.

Because despite the dramatic emails…TID enforcement is not the end of the world.

So What Is TID?

TID stands for Trimble ID.

Basically, Trimble wants users to have one login across their ecosystem instead of the classic construction software approach of:

  • 14 passwords
  • 3 sticky notes
  • and that one guy in accounting who swears his password is just “password

It’s meant to simplify things, not ruin your day.

There Are Two Main Ways to Handle It

Option 1: Users Create Their Own Trimble ID

This is the DIY option and personally my favorite because I don't want to have to reset your password when you forget it!

Users create a Trimble ID using their email and sign into Vista Web. Pretty straight forward. Trimble even provides documentation like TrimbleID Native User and Create a Trimble ID to Sign in to Vista Web to walk through it.

Minimal drama. Minimal clicking.

Option 2: Managed User TIDs (Admin Setup)

This is usually best when users:

  • Don’t log directly into Vista
  • Are linked to a VA user (...you know those "User Application" Type VA User Profiles)
  • Or when IT wants to keep things controlled

Admins can set these up in bulk or use the AutoAdd feature, so you’re not sitting there creating users one by one like it’s a spreadsheet from 2003.

There’s also a video in the original Trimble email that walks through it.

Why Everyone Is Nervous

Software emails with words like “enforcement” tend to trigger the same reaction as hearing a project manager say:

Hey… quick question.”

But most companies transition just fine.

And if things do get weird…

That’s Where We Come In

At ConstrucTech Consulting, we help companies sort through the confusing parts of Vista and Trimble changes so you don’t have to.

If TID setup turns into:

  • login errors
  • confused users
  • or general “why is this happening to me” moments

we can help get everything configured and running smoothly.

In short, TID enforcement isn’t something to panic about. It’s just Trimble modernizing how logins work.

So don’t panic.
Don’t sacrifice your keyboard to the IT gods.

And if things get confusing…ConstructechConsulting is here to help.
